Our guide prices include labour, all materials, reinforcement, a damp-proof membrane and normal waste removal. We reinforce every slab and fit a DPM on every base as standard. A proper concrete base starts below the finished surface. For a normal straightforward installation, the guide price assumes the site requires the usual preparation involved in constructing a durable, level base.
Excavation and preparation of the area required for the base.
MOT Type 1 sub-base, normally around 100 mm for an ordinary base where suitable.
Shuttering formed to the dimensions required for your building.
A level finished concrete base, commonly around 100 mm thick where appropriate.
Why might the price change?
The prices above are guides, not fixed quotations. Most straightforward jobs should be relatively simple to assess from photographs, dimensions and your postcode.
Long carries, narrow side access, steps or difficult routes between the road and base.
Significant excavation or existing material that needs to be removed from site.
Where concrete cannot be discharged reasonably close to the work area or alternative placement arrangements are needed.
Old slabs, paving, foundations or other materials that need breaking out first.
Soft, unstable or unusual ground may require additional preparation.
Some buildings require a different slab depth, dimensions or construction specification.

Pricing questions
Prices by size, what the work involves and what can change your quote.
Our introductory guide prices for concrete shed base installation in Surrey range from £590 for a 6 × 4 ft base to £1,565 for a 16 × 10 ft base. An 8 × 6 ft base is £750 and a 10 × 8 ft base is £1,000. These are guide prices for straightforward installations, not fixed quotations. Your actual price depends on dimensions, access, ground conditions, excavation and your building supplier’s requirements.
Our introductory concrete shed base guide prices are: 6 × 4 ft — £590; 8 × 6 ft — £750; 10 × 6 ft — £830; 10 × 8 ft — £1,000; 12 × 8 ft — £1,100; 12 × 10 ft — £1,265; and 16 × 10 ft — £1,565. These figures cover a base installation, rather than the shed itself. Check the supplier’s required base dimensions before requesting a quote: the building’s advertised size may not be the exact base size needed.
Our guide prices include labour, all materials and normal waste removal. For a straightforward installation, this covers normal excavation and site preparation, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, formwork, reinforcement, a damp-proof membrane (DPM) and a level finished concrete slab. We reinforce every slab and use a DPM on every base as standard: both are inexpensive in proportion to the overall job. Around 100 mm of sub-base and 100 mm of concrete are typical for an ordinary base where suitable; the final specification depends on the site and building.
Using our introductory size-based guide prices, an 8 × 6 ft base is approximately 4.46 m² and £168 per m²; a 10 × 8 ft base is approximately 7.43 m² and £135 per m²; and a 16 × 10 ft base is approximately 14.86 m² and £105 per m². These are rounded comparisons calculated from whole-job prices, not a per-square-metre tariff. Small jobs spread fixed costs over less area, so multiplying a single rate by your base area may give a misleading estimate.
No VAT is added to our guide prices or quotations. Surrey Concrete Bases is not VAT registered and does not charge VAT. The costs of buying materials are already allowed for in our prices. Your quotation includes labour, all materials for the agreed specification and normal waste removal.
No: the published figures are guide prices for straightforward installations. We assess the dimensions, access, ground conditions, excavation and supplier requirements before confirming your quotation. We agree the actual quotation for your job before work begins.
Access can change the cost because it affects how materials, equipment and waste reach or leave the garden. Narrow passages, steps, long carrying distances or access through the house can require more labour or a different installation approach. Send photographs of the full route as well as the base location. Difficult access does not automatically mean a concrete pump is needed: for our Camberley garden office project, we carried materials through the house and mixed in the garden.
Normal waste removal from the base installation is included in our guide prices. Demolishing an existing shed or breaking out an old slab or foundations is additional work that needs to be assessed when we quote. Tell us what is already on site and send photographs so we can account for the removal work and any extra waste involved.
A slope can require extra excavation, different levels or a retaining edge; soft or unstable ground can need additional preparation. That can change both materials and labour compared with a straightforward base installation. In our Camberley project, a brick retaining wall supported the base on the sloping site. Your quote needs to reflect your own ground conditions rather than assuming the same solution is suitable everywhere.
Reinforcement and a damp-proof membrane (DPM) are included as standard on every base we install. Both are inexpensive in proportion to the job, so we do not treat them as optional extras. A thicker slab can increase the price because it needs more concrete, for example where an unusually heavy load requires a thicker base. Send any supplier instructions with your enquiry so we can confirm the right specification and price.
Sometimes. If the existing base is suitable, keeping and extending it can avoid unnecessary demolition and waste. For our Yateley log cabin project, we retained a sound shed base and extended it; the customer saved around £1,000 compared with the alternative quote to replace it. This is a result from one project, not a standard saving. An existing base needs assessment before we can recommend retaining it.
Mostly, yes. For the same base area and similar site conditions, garden office, summerhouse and log cabin bases are generally priced on the same basis as shed bases. An unusually heavy load may require a thicker base and increase the cost. Reinforcement and a damp-proof membrane are included as standard. Send your supplier’s base plan so we can confirm the dimensions and any special requirements.
A custom-size base should cost roughly the same per square foot as a comparable standard-size base. For example, a 10 × 6 ft base and a 5 × 12 ft base both cover 60 square feet, so both would have the same £830 guide price with equivalent access, ground conditions and construction requirements. Use the listed base with the closest area as a starting point, then send your dimensions and site photos so we can confirm the quotation.
Compare the scope as well as the total. Check that each quote uses the same dimensions and states the excavation, sub-base, concrete thickness, formwork, access arrangements and any reinforcement or membrane required. Also check how demolition, waste removal and any applicable VAT are treated. A concrete supply-only price is not the same as a quotation to prepare the ground and install a finished base.
Often, yes. Send your required dimensions, postcode, supplier base plan if you have one, and clear photographs showing the proposed base location and the access route. Include any old slab, slope, steps or other potential obstacles. We can then assess what is involved and tell you whether more information or a site visit is needed. If you are unsure what to send, contact us and we will guide you.
